Hyponatremia is a very common condition encountered in the ICU in isolation or as a complication of a medical illness. Hyponatremia is defined as serum sodium less than 135 mEq/L. It is considered severe if serum sodium is less than 125 mEq/L. Too rapid correction can result in neurological complications.
