Investigation of the Josephson Effect in Y(Yb)Ba2Cu3O7−y Single Crystal Break Junctions

Abstract

We have studied the I(V)-characteristics of break junctions in Y(Yb)Ba2Cu3O7−y single crystals. For a YBaCuO Josephson junction with a critical supercurrent density jc=6·102 A/cm2 at T= 4.2K a Fraunhofer-like magnetic field dependence of the critical current Ic and Fiske resonances in low magnetic fields have been observed in the I(V)-characteristic. The velosity of the electromagnetic wave in the contact area c* (Swihart velosity) has been calculated c*/c ≈ 0.018. The ratio of the barrier thickness dI to the relative dielectric constant of the barrier a was found to be dI / ε ≈ 0.09 nm.
