NQR study in YBa2Cu4O8 under pressure

Abstract

The frequency spectra under pressure up to 3 GPa at the Cu site in YBa2Cu4O8 have been measured by the nuclear quadrupole resonance(NQR) technique. The NQR center frequency (vQ) at the Cu(1) chain site decreases with increasing pressure. On the other hand, the vQ at the planar Cu(2) site increases with increasing pressure. In our previous report, the carrier doping by Ca substitution causes the increase of vQ at both Cu sites. Therefore, it is assumed that the carrier transfers from the chain to the planar site by pressure effect. These results agree with the pervious reports measured under lower pressure by Zimmermann et al. and Zheng et al. In addition, the line width of the NQR spectra broadens with increasing pressure.
