Nonlinear Transport in insulating YBa2Cu3Oy

Abstract

The intense nonlinear current, typically I āˆ Vn (nā‰ˆ6), where V is the applied voltage, has been observed in the wide range of temperatures (50ā€“300 K) for the highly oxygen reduced samples of YBa2Cu3Oy. This type of non-linearity cannot be interpreted in terms of the model of field-assisted hopping. Instead, space charge introduced into localized states may dominate nonlinear transport (space-charge-limited current). The d.c. conductivity is dominated by band conduction at high temperatures (T>100ā€“200 K). There is no signature of minimum metallic conductivity and is no indication of variable-range hopping (VRH) even in low temperatures.
