Summary
Quality of life (QOL) evaluation in chronic illness is a challenge even in one culture. Expanding that effort from our North American experience into Japanese language and culture has been an exciting and interesting challenge. Rigorous translation methods, followed by evaluation of measurement bias, will allow us to compare QOL in patients suffering from the same chronic diseases, who live in different cultures.
