Toyota Moves into the Fast Lane
I entered Toyota Motor Sales Company (hereafter referred to as Toyota Motor Sales) in July 1957 as section manager of the newly established market research section in the Export Department. Prior to my joining the company, the president, Shotaro Kamiya, had gone on a market research tour in North, Central, and South America from the end of March through the middle of May 1957. In the course of his travels, he decided to move immediately into the U.S. market. My job was to make the necessary preparations for this new project.
