Rokkasen (ᄎ墓仙) Concert

Abstract

While the author is primarily a composer, he has also been pursuing studies in organic engineering of plants as a research fellow in the School of Science and Engineering of Waseda University. As his studies progressed, he came to recognize more and more that we should at the very least maintain the existing condition of the global environment without doing further injury to it.

He has therefore launched a campaign, with the object of making people reconsider how vital it is to preserve, in which he presents waves emitted by plants when converted to sounds audible to the human ear.

Rokkasen is a musical group which is organized by the author and consists of nine ladies (six Japanese and three Chinese). The most of instruments are traditional ones and were made of old wood. The motivation and the purpose of the organization are described. It is the problem of cultural background and diversity of culture. Research of plant transmitters and an attempt of coperformance between the sound of plant transmitting waves and the sound of instruments were carried out. The global environment problem is in the background of the attempt.
