Overview and Epilogue
This international meeting has provided a unique opportunity for authorities representing diverse disciplines to come together in Kobe, Japan to discuss their data and ideas dealing with a common theme; namely, colorectal cancer genetics. Possibly for the first time, an opportunity became available for clinicians and basic scientists to discuss concomitantly familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), and other variants of familial and hereditary colorectal cancer to an almost unparalleled intensity. Indeed, so far as we can determine, these meetings represent the first attempt at a comprehensive coverage of the genetic aspects of virtually all forms of colorectal cancer.
