Abstract

Our experience with more than 600 giant intracranial aneurysms operated upon in our unit since 1958 includes 55 carotid cavernous aneurysms, 99 posterior communicating aneurysms, 98 carotid ophthalmic aneurysms, 96 carotid bifurcation aneurysms, 47 middle cerebral artery aneurysms, and 17 anterior cerebral artery aneurysms. Of those giant sacs arising from the posterior circulation, 125 have arisen at the basilar bifurcation, 46 from the basilar artery at the superior cerebellar artery origin, 49 on the basilar artery below the superior cerebellar artery, 30 at the vertebral-basilar junction, 27 vertebral, 29 P1 aneurysms, and 22 arising from the second portion of the posterior cerebral artery.
