Despite recent advances in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of cancer, pancreatic cancer remains a medical and surgical problem [1–6]. At the time of diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, approximately 85% of symptomatic patients have metastatic disease [1]. In surgical specimens of pancreatic cancer, even tumors 2 cm or smaller have regional lymph node metastases in about half of the cases [3]. The aggressive spread of a pancreatic tumor is one of the reasons for the fatal outcome of the disease.
