Abstract

First, we will discuss the system architecture consisting of two subsystems, the data management subsystem and the object management subsystem. The data management subsystem is an extended relational database kernel called XRDB. It is used to efficiently store and access objects in secondary memory. The object management subsystem supports the object model and the object manipulation language on top of the data management subsystem. We will explain the function and implementation of the data management subsystem, and the storage of objects and implementation of the object manipulation language using this subsystem.
