New Corrosion Control System for Steel Pipe Piles of the Oversea Bridge Footings

Abstract

The new corrosion control system named PTC system was applied to the tidal and splash zone of steel pipe piles of the Ube-Bridge in Yamaguchi Pref. The footings of the bridge consist of 84 steel pipe piles with diameter 2.5m and length 40m. The PTC system is made up of petrolatum tape for corrosion prevention and plastic cover for protecting the tape from mechanical damage and for long life service. Construction method and characteristics of the PTC system will be presented using the example of the Ube-Bridge.
