The degree of corrosion of offshore structures affected by the marine environment is far greater than that of onshore structures in a land environment. It is indispensable therefore that appropriate corrosion-protection measures be taken when building offshore structures to correspond with their designed service life. In recent times in particular, there is a strong demand for the development of corrosion protection technology which can secure long-term durability of offshore structures from fifty to a hundred years.
