Abstract
The P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology is a scientific institution for multidisciplinary study of the ocean. Since the institute was established, there have been many examples when a multidisciplinary approach has permitted us to solve large fundamental problems, the case of the phosphorites being typical.
