Summary
Changing geopolitical structures, environmental concerns, economic competition in the international arena and the debate on energy and resources are all factors which affect the future of marine science. Scripps Institution of Oceanography scientists are aware of these factors and are increasingly concerned with questions of global change and the role the oceanss’ play in this process. Scripps’ scientists are actively involved in planning and implementing global scale ocean observation programs. Part of Scripps’ future thrust will be to encourage collaboration and forge links among marine institutions of various Pacific rim countries. This interaction is considered to be vital to global scale ocean research efforts.
