Studies on Prediction and Prevention of Stress Ulcer Using Tonometry, Reflectance Spectrophotometry and Oxygenated Perfluorochemicals
The pathophysiology of stress ulcers is complex. There is either too much acid & pepsin or inadequate mucosal defense. The mucosal defense is largely depend upon the oxygen supply through microcirculatory system in the mucosa. There are many regulatory factors such as autonomous nervous system as well as peptideric or purinergic control, and so forth. Firstly normal collecting venule of rat mucosa was demonstrated. In case of stress ulcer mucosal blood flow diminishes remarkably and finally develop stress ulcer. (Fig. 1)
