Abstract

Since our first report about Increasedexcess work and \({\dot {\text{V}}}\)O2 caused by SIMV presented in London on 1982, respiratory work and oxygen cost of breathing has become an important parameter for evaluating the ventilatory modes and the performance of ventilators.
