Virus Behavior in Activated Sludge Culture

  • Conference paper
Biochemical Engineering for 2001

Abstract

Recently, many instances of viral contamination of groundwater and even drinking water have been reported [II. Although the contamination pathway is still not clear, it is considered partly due to the disposal of wastewater sludge on land arid the discharge of effluent from sewage treatment plant to fresh water. In this study, the virus behavior inactivated sludge was investigated in order to elucidate the factors affecting the virus removal/inactivation. Effects of temperature, pH, substrate addition and MLSS concentrations on virus removal were studied by batch experiments.
