Phase Stability, Superconductivity and 151Eu Mössbauer Effect in T*-Phase (La1−xEux)2−ySryCuO4

Abstract

The phase stability and superconductivity in T*-phase (La1−xEux)2−ySryCuO4 were studied and the microscopic state of Eu in T*-phase was examined by Mössbauer effect. Single and nearly single T*-phase samples were obtained at x = 0.5. T-phase and T’-phase appeared at a low Eu concentration and at a high Eu concentration, respectively. The samples annealed in 400 atm oxygen showed superconductivity(Tc = 17 – 29 K), while those annealed in 1 atm oxygen did not show it. The isomer shift of Mössbauer spectrum in single or nearly single T*-phase was 0.83–0.84 mm/s (showing Eu+3), which is larger than that in T’-phase (LaEu)2−yCeyCuO4. The Debye temperature estimated from the line area was 180–200 K, which is larger than that in T’-phase. These reflect that Eu-O distance in T*-phase is small compared with that in T’-phase.
