“Needs” and “Seeds” of Computer Simulations in Astrophysics

Abstract

Numerical simulation using recent supercomputers in astrophysics is considered to be a very important tool for analyzing astronomical phenomena, because that is the only experimental method to study these. The capability of the present supercomputer, however, is inadequate. For example, in the formation theory of sun and planets, we need very accurate computations because of the great mass difference between the sun and the planets. Hence, our need for the supercomputers of the next generation is very strong (we need new machines with a speed of several tens of GFLOPS and memory storage of several tens of Gbytes at least).
