Conference paper

Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is a new method for elemental and isotopic analysis.1) 2) After several years development, commercial instruments were announced in 1983 by SCIEX and by VG Instruments. At present there are four commercial manufacturers of ICP-MS instrumentation (the others are Yokogawa Electric and Seiko Electronic). The pace of improvements to instrumentation and of application studies are rapidly increasing as is shown in Table 1. Application of ICP-MS to biological samples including clinical samples is following the general trend of total publications and rapidly increasing.
