Endolymphatic hydrops (EH) generally appears to be caused by an imbalance between the secretion and absorption of endolymphatic fluid. Although a model of Ménière’s disease has been experimentally produced by inhibiting the absorption of endolymphatic fluid in the endolymphatic sac, it is inappropriate as a model of Ménière’s disease since it does not display vertiginous attacks [1–3]. Ménière’s attack models have been produced in the past through the use of immunologic reactions [4, 5]. However, such models are considered to be histopathologically different from Ménière’s disease, since the existence of considerable precipitation in the perilymphatic spaces indicates the presence of serous labyrinthitis. Kitahara et al.  developed a successful Ménière’s attack model based on excessive endolymph production by injecting artificial endolymph into the perilymphatic space and the scala media. This fact suggests that excessive endolymph secretion plays a greater role in the occurrence of Ménière’s attack than insufficient endolymph absorption.
