Application of Superconductivity to Transportation: Magnetically Levitated Train

Abstract

Taking over from the defunct JNR, the Railway Technical Research Institute continues to be engaged in the maglev development project. Now, the safety, reliability and practicality of the system are being confirmed using an MLU 002 test vehicle on the Miyazaki test track. The vehicle has superconducting coils composed of niobium-titanium alloy series wire of the copper ratio 1, impregnated with epoxy resin and having a magnetomotive force of 700 kA. This paper also refers to the conceptual design of the commercial vehicle, inauguration time of commercial operation, and so on.
