Completely Textured Yttrium Barium Cuprate Superconductors

Abstract

It is now generally recognized that if the full potential of the new class of superconducting oxides is to be achieved in bulk samples, then extensive grain orientation (texturing) must be carried out.

We have recently extended our early studies of pressure texturing by studies of materials which have been deliberately doped to be copper oxide rich. The resultant samples show complete surface texturing,with the (00l) axis normal to the specimen and with a spread of only ±1° in the axis orientation.

The properties of these materials are discussed.
