Abstract

Many complications of diabetes mellitus are widely known, while the etiology is not as yet clearly understood. It is generally suspected that hemorheological alterations and microhemodynamic changes play major roles in the pathophysiological mechanism of diabetic microangiopathy. In an attempt to clarify the etiology of diabetic microangiopathy, diabetic subjects, boderline subjects, and normal subjects were examined with respect to microhemodynamic changes in the venules on the human bulbar conjunctiva and hemorheological changes in peripheral blood before and after performing a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (75g-0GTT).
