Abstract

An analysis is presented for calculating the failure probabilities of a spherical tank, in which the main random variables considered are defect size, material constants, applied loading range, fracture toughness, argular and misfit. The analysis is based on the methods for post-yield fracture safety assessment. Monte Carlo simulation is used to estimate the probabilistic integrals, parameter and model sensitivity studies are performed and the significances of influencing factors are numerically compared.
