Abstract
Plastic buckling of columns has received a great deal of attention in the past, but their deformation characteristics during postbifurcation has still not been fully understood. The historical example of a column compressed by a pair of force P at both ends is re-examined here to illustrate this fact. In the notion of von Karman [1], the compressive buckling would occur at a load level corresponding to reduced modulus Er.
