Summary
Strength of pipes used in offshore structures is studied from two points of view. First, a simplified method of analysis is developed for collapse strength of line pipes under combined bending, external pressure, and axial force. Applicability of the method is evaluated from available test data. Secondly, experimental investigations are performed on bracing members subjected to periodic forces. The local buckling behavior and the initiation mechanism of fatigue crack are studied. A design proposal for the fatigue strength is made.
