Energy Release Rates for the Propagating Crack and the Surrounding Damage

Energy release rates and stress intensity factors are calculated for the propagating crack-damage (CD) zone in the single edge and center crack specimens. The analysis shows that crack-damage may either amplify or suppress the resulting stress field depending on the crack-damage configuration.
