Abstract

In this paper, a systematic approach is presented to construct thick shell elements which have optimal transverse shear interpolation. The technique is demonstrated for the design of an 8-node quadrilateral shell element. A series of numerical elements are carried out which demonstrate that the element is both robust and accurate for thin and thick plate and shell analysis.
