Abstract
We, the authors, have developed our own Solid Modeler with Assembly Representation Tables (SMART) with the aim of improving the functions to represent the assembly composed of many components which has been lacking in the existing solid modelers. SMART has also such a characteristic as applying the relational database to itself, which allows the commercial database adopting mainly the relational database to be utilized with easy interchangeability.
SMART has a hierarchical data structure which has the data called “top” as top level and some “ASSEMBLY”’s on the levels beneath the “top”. Also it has “OBJECT” and “PRIMITIVE” furthermore beneath the said levels, and each of these also has the data “RELATION” which represents the relationship between lower-ranking level data. And they all link to each other in a ring structure.
On the relational database (RDB), SMART consits of four relations, i.e. ASSEMBLY, OBJECT, PRIMITIVE, and RELATION, and the individual relation has its own attribute as column data such as the tuple number, lower- ranking level tuple number, initial number of relation, etc. as shown below.
