Benefits and Limitations of Mediastinal Endodissection During Radical Transhiatal Esophagectomy

Transhiatal esophagectomy (THE) is used in many centers to remove the thoracic esophagus. This one-cavity procedure has theoretical advantages in terms of reducing the operative risk but has been described as a nonradical operation with limited control of mediastinal resection margins because of the blunt dissection.
