Approaches to Satoyama Conservation

The traditional use of coppices that have maintained woodlands over several hundreds of years has been destroyed by the fuel revolution of the 1950s and 1960s. During this time, fuel has changed from wood to fossil fuels. This period coincides with the beginning of the economic boom in Japan.
