Abstract

Upper cervical lesions are a relatively common problem in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Surgical treatment is required in patients with severe instability of the atlanto-axial joint and basilar impression. We have reviewed 14 cases of rheumatoid disease of the cervical spine in patients who underwent occipitocervical fusion. We studied fusion rate, maintenance of the reduced position, and subaxial changes in these cases.
