Dimension Dependence of Elastic Scattering Effects on Resonant Tunneling

We have shown that elastic scattering influences resonant tunneling in quite a different manner in the 1D and 3D cases. In 1D resonant tunneling, elastic scattering simply shifts the resona nce energy and has little influence on the transmission peak and the full width. In contrast, in 3D resonant tunneling, elastic scattering reduces the transmission peak and broadens the full width, just as in the case of inelastic scattering.
