Metabolism and Metabolites of Benzylisoquinolinium Diester Compounds

Abstract

Diester onium compounds, generically, are synthesized as potential substrates for plasma esterases including pseudocholinesterase, or as candidates for the non-biological chemical degradation of quaternary ammonium compounds known as the Hofmann elimination. The benzylisoquinolinium diesters are metabolized or degraded by either mechanism, depending on specific structural requirements.
