Summary
Some oncological and functional outcomes of surgical treatment of pelvic tumors are described. Seventy-four bone tumors and 16 soft tissue tumors were included in this study. Fifty-two bone tumors were malignant and 22 were benign. Ten soft tissue tumors were malignant and six were benign. The local cure rate was poor in type II (acetabular) and type IV (sacral) bone tumors. The local recurrence rate for type II and type IV bone tumor was 40.0% and 47.1%, respectively. The cumulative 5-year survival rate for type-II bone tumors was the worst at only 40%. Limb function was also poor in type-II bone tumors. Vesicorectal dysfunction was also observed when both S2 nerve roots were spared.
