New Conducting Polypyrroles Fused with Aromatic Rings

Abstract

Pyrroles fused with aromatic rings are prepared by the reaction of aromatic nitro compounds with ethyl isocyanoacetate followed by deethoxycarbonylation on treatment with KOH in ethylene glycol at 170 °C. Such pyrroles are good precursors for conducting polypyrroles and their optical and electrical properties are well controlled by the kinds of fused aromatic rings and substituents of aromatic rings.
