Hepatocellular Carcinoma and the Role of Blood Flow Imaging in Clinical Practice

  • Masatoshi Kudo

Generally speaking, there are three approaches for the imaging diagnosis of liver tumors: morphological, hemodynamic, and functional (Table 4–1). Of these, the hemodynamic approach is of especial importance. The roles of blood flow imaging, in particular ultrasonography, in clinical practice for HCC include: (1) screening and lesion detection, (2) characterization, (3) evaluation of malignant grade, (4) staging, and (5) evaluation of treatment response (Table 4–2).
