Abstract
The history of Asia can be seen as a collective history of several distinct peripheral coastal regions such as East Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East linked by the interior mass of the Eurasian Steppe. It varies greatly across and within its region with regard to its ethnic groups, cultures, environment, economics, historical ties, and government systems. It also has a mix of many different climates ranging from the equatorial south via the hot desert in the Middle East, temperate areas in the East, and the extremely continental center to vast subarctic and polar areas in Siberia. It is further subdivided into North Asia, South Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and West Asia. It is for this reason that people in Asia, though belonging to the same continent, have varied facial features and hair characteristics. For the interest of this book, ethnicities in Asia have been limited to South Asians, West Asians, East Asians, and Southeast Asians, as these ethnic groups represent the vast majority of patients seen for hair transplantation.
