Abstract
Roadmaps, visions, and scenarios are different representations of certain aspects of thinking or perceptions of the future. Technology roadmaps have been used as a planning and management tool in industry and organizations. This book describes the current status of Japan’s energy system and roadmaps of energy technologies. In this chapter, we elaborate on the background and concepts of roadmaps. We also discuss the function, potential risks, and usage of a technology roadmap.
