Abstract
The historical development of the studies for thermoresponsive polymers and thermoresponsive polyacrylamides is comprehensively reviewed in this Chapter. Recent developments in the precise synthesis methods for polyacrylamides are described with actual examples of anionic polymerization, coordination polymerization, controlled/living radical polymerization, and click reactions. Previous research studies for the elucidation of the relationship between a primary structure and the thermoresponsive properties of polyacrylamides with a well-defined primary structure are described. Group transfer polymerization (GTP) utilizing conventional catalysts, previous attempts for the precise synthesis of polyacrylamides by GTP, and the recent development of the organocatalytic GTP are described. Finally, the aim and scope of the thesis are described.
