Fluidics of Phacoemulsification Systems

  • Chapter
  • First Online:

Abstract

Major manufacturers of phacoemulsification systems in the world have improved fluidics and phacoemulsification technologies to increase the safety and efficacy of cataract surgery. But phacoemulsification techniques have generally not kept pace with the rapid, computerized technology explosion. Moreover, manufacturers are often reluctant to disclose technical information that would advance the surgeon’s understanding but could also disclose information to the competition. Surgeons, however, should understand the basic mechanism and characteristics of the machines they use.
