Abstract
-
Plasma exchange (PE) involves the withdrawal of blood from the circulation, centrifugal separation of the blood into plasma and cells, and return of the cellular components suspended in an inert medium.
-
Fresh frozen plasma (FFP) is used for replacement of proteins (with the exception of albumin), such as clotting factors.
-
The combination of PE and hemodialysis (HD) may be used to avoid development of hypocalcemia or hyponatremia caused by FFP.
