Abstract
This chapter briefly describes the scientific topic, namely the Galactic X-ray background emission, studied in the present thesis and the background context of the topic referring the existence of various types of background electromagnetic emission in space. The structure of the thesis, a list of abbreviations used in the following chapters, the names of relevant space observatories are also included in this chapter.
