Metal Matrix Composites

  • Chapter

Abstract

Metal Matrix Composites (MMC) materials show superior properties to metal materials: excellent mechanical properties, good heat and wear resistance. However, they are not immune to the damage engendered in brittleness and low fracture toughness, as shown by many other advanced materials. Therefore, problems of reliability such as fatigue characteristic and improvement of fracture toughness by controlling fracture characteristics are important subjects for promoting practical application of MMC.
