Abstract

Standard management for severely brain-injured patients does not exist because the pathophysiological changes that occur do not follow one pattern. The critical path of brain hypothermia treatment is difficult to determine because additional management of complications from hypothermia are required. Therefore, the critical path, which is based on previous concepts, is not introduced for brain hypothermia treatment. However, if a critical path of brain hypothermia treatment can be developed, many severely brain-injured patients could be managed more effectively and survival could be improved in many hospitals.
