Abstract

Neurogenesis usually ceases by the early postnatal period. However, exceptional adult neurogenesis occurs in the hippocampus of mammals, including humans. We have been investigating how newly generated neurons develop and add new neuronal circuits to the adult hippocampus. Recently we have focused on the early developmental events of adult neurogenesis and have found the systemic cellular arrangement and intercellular relationship of proliferating neural precursors and migrating neuroblasts.
