A few Thoughts and Memories of my Introduction to Siegfried Wagner

It was in the early sixties that I made my first and long awaited visit to Bayreuth. Wilhelm Pitz, the chorus master of the Bayreuth Theatre had most kindly sought permission for me to sit at the back of the orchestra during performances where I so well remember the opportunity that gave me to watch and learn from such great conductors as Karl Böhm and Knappertsbusch. It was during this first visit that I met Friedelind Wagner and our mutual love of helping young singers drew us together, and our friendship cemented over the alternate visits to Bayreuth over the next few years.
