Bei Ausgrabungen im texanischen Ort Lewisville sind vor einigen Jahren menschliche Gebeine gefunden worden, deren Alter auf 38000 Jahre geschätzt wird. Indianische Völker sind also seit mehr als 35000 Jahren, möglicherweise sogar, wie manche WissenschaftlerInnen schätzen, bereits seit 75000 Jahren auf dem amerikanischen Kontinent heimisch.2
